Hardcore punk is a subgenre and subculture of punk rock that originated in the late 1970s. Hardcore punk is faster, harder, and more aggressive than the original form of punk rock. The root of hardcore can be traced back to Southern California and San Francisco. The hardcore punk scene was mainly underground and against mainstream music at the time, and spawned movements such as straight edge.
